Amid fears of policy change…a comprehensive American support plan for Ukraine
Newsweek magazine reported that Ukraine’s future remains ambiguous, with anticipation of the changes that may occur in American policy with the possibility of former President Donald Trump assuming power again. Kiev and eastern NATO countries are concerned that any ceasefire sponsored by Trump may impose concessions that affect the security of Ukraine and the security of coalition countries close to Russia.
The magazine indicated that Austin will meet with leaders responsible for various aspects of supporting the Ukrainian army during a meeting of the “Ukrainian Defense Contact Group,” scheduled to be held on Thursday at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
The group includes officials from NATO countries working to strengthen Ukraine’s capabilities within the framework of “specialized alliances,” at a time when the world is witnessing the continuation of the largest ground conflict in Europe since World War II.
Alliance objectives
These alliances aim to draw clear road maps to meet the needs of the Ukrainian forces in the fields of aviation, armor, artillery, mine clearance, drones, air and missile defense, maritime security, and information technology until 2027.
The Pentagon explained that the goal of these maps is to enable donors to plan and support Ukraine sustainably in the long term.
He stressed that the work of the contact group will continue after Austin leaves office, while European countries within NATO push to enhance their defense capabilities, after having relied for years on the United States for vital and expensive military assets.
Officials also indicated the possibility of reducing the Defense Contact Group’s dependence on American leadership, especially with the escalation of Trump’s election campaign over the past year. (Erm News)
