After the Beirut airport incident, Tehran confirms: Our diplomats were not searched

Yesterday, Sunday, the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee in the Iranian Parliament stressed that Iranian diplomats would not be searched at Beirut International Airport last Friday.

Committee spokesman Ibrahim Rezaei said: The National Security and Foreign Policy Committee held a detailed meeting for 4 hours.

He added: The committee provided clarifications regarding the issue of Beirut Airport. Among them is not inspecting our diplomats and resolving the issue after coordination with the Lebanese authorities, according to the Iranian Mehr News Agency.

The Lebanese authorities had said that their security services at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut subjected an Iranian plane belonging to Mahan Airlines to a thorough inspection, after receiving information indicating that it might carry financial shipments directed to Hezbollah.

According to security sources, the inspection began when an Iranian diplomat, who was carrying two suitcases, refused to allow the security team to inspect their contents.

After following up on security procedures, the suspicions were initially confirmed, prompting additional investigations and requesting official clarifications from the Iranian embassy.

The Iranian Embassy in Beirut provided a detailed explanation through the Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, confirming that the money in the bags is to pay the embassy’s operational expenses, and that it includes financial documents and documents and has nothing to do with any shipments directed to Hezbollah.

Based on this clarification, the two bags were allowed to pass in accordance with the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, which grants diplomatic immunity to diplomatic officials. (Sky News)
