Urgent warning: bank accounts may be targeted

Sky News reported that a Dutch information security company issued a warning that the bank accounts of Android phone users could be hacked.

The company said that the new malware hides behind a fake update to the most popular Google Chrome browser.

She explained that once installed, the application turns into malicious software capable of collecting the user’s personal data and allowing attackers to control the phone remotely.

In this regard, information security and technology expert Shaghali Jaafar revealed, “This software is not the first of its kind and will not be the last.”

He added: “Why did the attackers exploit Android? Because “Play Store” relies on automatic verification of applications published on it, and thus the ease of introducing malware. Here is the difference with the “Apple Store,” which relies on manual verification of every application published on it.”

He continued: “Users must have a culture of information security and know when to install any application and for what purpose.”

Jaafar stressed the necessity of always checking the source of each application or update before downloading it. (Sky News)
