I discussed with the Sharia the political transition in Syria


The United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, other than Pederson, stated that he discussed with Syrian President Ahmed Al -Sharaa the process of the ongoing political transition in the country.









“I appreciate the wide discussion in Damascus with Mr. Ahmed Al -Shara on all aspects of the ongoing political transition process in Syria.”.

He added, “It is possible to find a path to move forward in line with the basic principles of Resolution 2254 if the correct decisions are made by the Syrian and international parties alike.”

He stressed the need to continue to reduce the sanctions, noting that the Syrian people need an economic future.

He stated in his post that he renewed his condemnation of repeated attacks and Israeli interference in Syria, explaining that he appreciates the commitment of the interim Syrian authorities to fulfill their agreements with Israel.

Pederson explained that they reviewed a full range of political, security, economic and diplomatic challenges facing the Syrian people, and discussed the importance of enhancing cooperation between the United Nations and the interim authorities.

He revealed that during the meeting with Al -Shara, he stressed the necessity of preventing any new cycle of violence and focusing on building confidence in the political, security and economic fields, after the incidents of violence that swept the areas of the Syrian coast, and resulted in the killing of hundreds.

Pederson pointed out that with the Sharia it was offered the necessity of addressing concerns related to foreign fighters.

He also indicated that he discussed with the Sharia the importance of a transparent framework for the selection and election of the People’s Assembly.
