Archive George Youssef Al -Ashqar in the Library of the Holy Spirit University


In a move to enhance efforts to document and preserve the history of Lebanon, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Director of the Phoenix Center for Lebanese Studies at the Holy Spirit University – Kaslik, Father Joseph Makarzel, and Professor George Youssef Al -Ashqar, the owner of a library and a rich archive that documents the history of Lebanon men who were known as the cleanliness of the palm and integrity.

It should be noted that Professor George Al -Ashqar is a national figure who testifies to the consequences and the capacity of knowledge, and he devoted his life to collecting rare documents and references. It has an archive that includes cognitive treasures highlighting articulated eras from the history of Lebanon. Among the personalities who maintain their files and documents are the late President Emile Edde, the late Brigadier Raymond Edde, in addition to the archives of the National Bloc Party, the Archive of Bishop Neama Allah Abi Karam, and other figures who left an important impact on Lebanese political and social life.

This cooperation aims to provide an integrated research environment for students and researchers in the Lebanese affairs, where the archive will be classified and promoted in preparation for its numbers and convert it into a reference available for future generations, in order to preserve the cultural and intellectual heritage that was an essential part of the identity of Lebanon.

In this context, Professor George Al -Ashqar expressed his pride in this step, stressing that “preserving history is a national responsibility in which everyone should participate, in order for the values ​​that distinguished Lebanon throughout its history remain a beacon for future generations.” He also stressed the importance of highlighting the men of the state, who have integrity and integrity.
