A new Israeli incursion southwestern Syria … and the arrest of civilians

The American newspaper “Wall Street Journal” reported on Sunday that the Israeli army penetrated the buffer zone in southwestern Syria, noting that he had arrested Syrian citizens accused of terrorism.

The newspaper, quoting the residents of the Al -Hamidiya village in the occupied Syrian Golan, said that “Israel has established a buffer zone on our lands and prevented us from entering it,” adding that “the Israeli forces are penetrating outside the buffer zone in southwestern Syria.”

In the context, the American newspaper quoted an Israeli officer that “the Israeli forces detained Syrians suspected of involvement in terrorist activities.”

Israel had modified the situation of the buffer zone with Syria, taking advantage of the developments in the Syrian scene after the fall of Bashar al -Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024.

The Israeli forces entered the buffer zone in the occupied Syrian Golan, which was considered by the United Nations a violation of the 1974 agreement agreement, and Israel announced its intention to maintain its control over this region.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says that Israel will continue to control the buffer zone until the formation of a Syrian force capable of implementing the 1974 forces separation agreement.

The southern region of Syria

The southern region of Syria, including Daraa and Quneitra, also witnessed tensions and clashes between the people of the region and the Israeli forces.

Last Thursday, 9 civilians were killed and others were wounded after the Israeli forces bombed the Jubailiya Dam, located between the city of Nawa and the town of Tsel, west of Daraa.

The governorate indicated that there is a great alert and anger in the region after this massacre, especially in light of the progress of the Israeli forces for the first time to this depth.

Earlier, the newspaper reported that the people in Daraa Governorate, in southern Syria, clashed with the Israeli forces near the Jubailiya Dam.

The Israeli attack comes after raids by Israeli fighters on Homs and Hama airports and the Research Center in Damascus. (Sky News)
