After raising the American drawings, the Iraqi government is moving

On Saturday, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shi’a chaired a ministerial meeting devoted to discussing the US government’s decision to raise customs tariffs on imported goods from different countries of the world, including Iraq, and the effects that may result on the global economy and oil prices, and its direct implications for the Iraqi economy.

During the meeting, the Ministry of Commerce reviewed the most prominent data related to trade exchange between Baghdad and Washington, and made it clear that the American decision was not the result of Iraqi fees imposed on American goods, but rather came against the background of the trade balance between the two countries. The ministry has also indicated that a large part of Iraqi imports of American products are not done through direct channels, but rather through intermediate countries, due to the distribution mechanisms adopted by some American companies.

In light of these data, the Sudanese directed a series of strategic measures aimed at protecting the national economy, which included:

-Enhancing direct trade relations with the American side, by opening communication channels with American distributors and commercial agencies inside Iraq.

-Activating the role of Iraqi agencies to ensure direct exchange between economic institutions in the two countries.

Developing banking and financial cooperation in order to achieve mutual interests and contribute to improving the investment environment.

-Assigning the Iraqi negotiator team to review the foundations of the commercial relationship with the United States, and work to formulate balanced partnerships based on respect for interests.

-The ministries of the foreign, finance and trade are directed to open a direct dialogue with their American counterparts in the economic and commercial sectors, in addition to following up developments through weekly reports from global markets and international expertise homes.

Al -Sudani stressed that these steps come within the framework of a realistic economic policy that depends on the supreme national interests, and seeks to ensure Iraq’s economic stability and positive interaction with international changes. (Free)
