Prime Minister Nawaf Salam, Deputy American envoy to the Middle East, received Mrs. Morgan Ortigos, accompanied by Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for Near East Affairs and Syria, Natasha Franceski, in addition to the American ambassador to Lebanon, Mrs. Lisa Johnson, and an accompanying delegation.

The meeting included a discussion in the files of financial and economic reform, as Ortigos praised the government’s reformist plan, especially the steps that it started, especially the raising of banking secrecy, the draft law on the banking sector reform, and the launch of a new mechanism for appointments in the state departments, and the government’s plans for administrative and institutional reform and combating corruption. It was also stressed on the need to reach an agreement with the International Monetary Fund.

On the developments of the situation in the south, the research dealt with the measures carried out by the Lebanese army to implement resolution 171 and the security arrangements agreement to stop hostilities, in cooperation with the Military Monitoring Committee, in addition to completing the Israeli withdrawal from Lebanese territory.

The American delegate expressed the relief of the measures that the government began to take at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut.

The developments of the situation were also dealt with on the Lebanese -Syrian border, while emphasizing its fully controlling and preventing any tensions or chaos in addition to preventing all forms of smuggling.

The meeting, which lasted for more than an hour, had a positive atmosphere, began with a retreat between President Salam and the American delegate.
