Committed to supporting the army and residents of southern Lebanon

UNIFIL announced, in a statement, that “the western sector leader, General Nicolas Mandeles, met today, the mayor of Bazuriya, Bahij Al -Husseini, and this first meeting took place between the two sides in a friendly atmosphere and was an opportunity for mutual acquaintance.”

Al -Husseini expressed “respect for the Lebanese and their appreciation of the Italian battalion”, but he conveyed “the increasing concern among citizens about their safety,” highlighting their concerns about “going out to the streets because of the continuous violations of the blue line and the ongoing bombing.”

The mayor also referred to the “great confidence that the population attaches to the Lebanese army,” stressing “the need to provide greater support to ensure security and stability.”

For his part, Mandolis reiterated “UNIFIL’s commitment to the support of the Lebanese army,” noting that it remains “the only strategic partner to restore normal life in the region.”

“UNIFIL’s continuous support to the civilian population, with the aim of helping them to return to their normal lives and restore security.”

UNIFIL explained that this meeting comes within the framework of its “continuous efforts to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to maintain stability and end hostilities in southern Lebanon through cooperation between UNIFIL, the Lebanese army and local authorities.”
