How long will Washington strike against the Houthis?

US President Donald Trump said that the Houthi militants were “fully eliminated” due to heavy American strikes that started on March 15, as part of a military campaign described as the broader since the conflict began.

According to intelligence reports and testimonies for assistants in Congress, the strikes succeeded in destroying a large part of the Houthi arsenal, which includes missiles, drones and launchers, despite their concentration in underground facilities. Officials confirmed that the size of the bombing exceeded what was carried out by the Biden administration previously, and that the current campaign was more effective than the officially announced.

However, other officials indicated that the Houthis showed great flexibility, and strengthened their fortifications, which made it difficult for the American forces to disrupt their attacks completely. The campaign was called the “coarse knight”, and it may last for six months, according to the Ministry of Defense, despite the denial of a Pentagon official for the assessments of some of the Congress allies that criticized the effectiveness of the process.

Officials pointed out that the raids paralyzed the capabilities of the Houthi leadership and communication, and reduced their response to limited and ineffective strikes. Toulsi Gabbard, Director of National Intelligence, announced that the strikes resulted in the killing of a number of senior Houthi leaders and the destruction of vital weapons manufacturing facilities, confirming that it helped reopen the freight corridors in the Red Sea.

This operation comes a year after the Houthi attacks that disrupted navigation in the Red Sea. While the Biden administration previously focused on targeting infrastructure sites, the Trump administration is seeking a greater escalation that includes the killing of the group’s leaders, amid confirmation from Foreign Minister Marco Rubio that the United States “provides a great service to the world” with its current operations.
