Four demands that Ortigos carry to Lebanon

Informed sources stated that Lebanon’s official position on American pressure to form a fixed civilian committees has not changed, as the refusal is the master of the situation with the possibility of softness within conditions.

According to the sources, any softness is exclusively linked to the application of Israel to the ceasefire and withdrawal agreement from Lebanese territory, and then it is possible to talk about negotiations on the demarcation of the border.

The sources believe that what the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, did when the army commander was negotiating on the maritime border, may be repeated, but after Israel committed to Resolution 1701.

An informed diplomatic source indicates that there is a clear table for the American delegate to Beirut Morgan Ortigos, and this clarity is derived from the clear dynamism of the new American administration’s policy with President Donald Trump. In terms of Lebanon and the Lebanese file, there are four basic points that Ortigos will reach the Lebanese side represented by the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri, and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam. These four basic points come their importance equal to the American administration, namely:

First, a timetable for the delivery of Hezbollah and all illegal weapons to the Lebanese state. And regarding the research on the issue of defense strategy, it will come after the handover of weapons, a project that the army proposes according to its needs of equipment and many and coordinates with political power, and that the model of the “popular crowd” is totally uncomfortable.

Second: The formation of a Lebanese civil committee to negotiate the demarcation of the Israeli border, withdrawal and restore the prisoners. The source indicated that talking about a civil committee means from political members in an indirect negotiation method.

As for the third requirement, it is the application of all international decisions, especially in terms of controlling the eastern borders to prevent smuggling, specifically weapon.

The source concluded that the American side will stress the need to stop the “cache” economy, which facilitates terrorist financing, as well as the need to make economic and administrative reforms.
