The continued arrest of the safety of the law … waiting for the evacuation of the path

Yola Hashem wrote in Al -central:

Seven months ago, and the former governor of Lebanon, Riyad Salama, who faces accusations of financial crimes that include money laundering, embezzlement and illicit enrichment, is still arrested, despite no ruling against him until now.

The arrest of Salama throughout this period is considered contrary to Article 108 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, which states that the reserve arrest is limited to the duration, so that it may not exceed two months in misdemeanor, which can be renewed only once in cases of extreme necessity, and six months in crimes with the possibility of renewing it once with an explained decision.

Why does Salama continue to stop? Is there anything new in the case?

Lawyer Mark Hobeqa confirms to Al -central that “the period of the reserve detention passed, and therefore his arrest without explanation or justification of an order contrary to the law,” noting that “the case is still in its place, and the issue is still stuck as it was two months ago. It was not decided by a request to evacuate the way, and he went on to the presence of the file with the financial public prosecutor, Judge Ali Ibrahim, about two weeks. On the subject of evacuation, but until the time, there is nothing new in the case.

Doesn’t the appointment of a new ruler to the “Central” help provide information that may benefit the case? Hobeqa answers: “The new ruler cannot help what was not required to provide information. Of course the basic dispute today is whether the money is the subject of the case in general or private, and all the statements of the employees of the Bank of Lebanon emphasized that there is no public money in this file, and therefore the new ruler can somewhere to confirm this issue if he is asked in official ways. His role is limited to this point specifically.”
