Between Tehran and Washington .. These are the most prominent rivalry stations

Relations between Iran and the United States have always been characterized by the two documents earlier, in the absence of confidence since the outbreak of the Iranian revolution in 1979.

In 1972, US President Richard Nixon visited Tehran to strengthen security relations between the two countries as part of a policy aimed at containing Soviet influence in the Middle East.

But the revolution in 79 prompted the Shah to leave the country, the spirit of God, Khomeini, returned from his exile and became the supreme leader.

Establish the embassy

In the same year, students of the American embassy in Tehran stormed and detained their employees, and a process of rescuing them, which was ordered by US President Jimmy Carter, then released minutes after his removal.

In 1980, the United States cut diplomatic ties with Tehran, confiscated Iranian assets, and banned most commercial transactions with the country.

In 1983, Washington accused the Hezbollah party, which Iran established in Lebanon and its support, of launching attacks on its embassy and the seat of the marine infantry in Beirut, killing more than 300 people, most of them Americans.

The most powerful accident

During the Iran -Iraq war, the United States in 1984 restored its relations with Iraq and granted it diplomatic support in its war against Iran.

As for the strongest incident, it was in 1988, when the American navy destroyed the two Iranian oil platforms, and a warship was flooded in response to damage to an American ship that collided with an Iranian phlegm.

The American warship “Vinsenz” at the time of an Iranian passenger plane accidentally shot down over the Gulf, killing all 290 people on board.

“Axis of Evil”

President George W. Bush announced in 2002 that Iran, Iraq and North Korea are the “axis of evil”, and US officials accused Tehran of operating a secret nuclear weapons program.

After the American invasion of Iraq in 2003, Iran -backed armed factions gained widespread influence in parts of the country, and launched attacks on American forces.

And granted an American law in 2012 President Barack Obama, who offered a helping hand if “Tehran reduced its grip”, the authority to impose sanctions on foreign banks if its imports of Iranian oil did not reduce, which led to the contraction of the Iranian economy.

But after 2013, Hassan Rouhani was elected president of Iran on the basis of a political program aimed at improving its relations with the world and strengthening its economy.

In 2015, Tehran and six major countries, including the United States, reached an agreement that limits Iranian nuclear activities in exchange for a limited reduction in sanctions.

After that, after a year, Iran released 10 American sailors who were arrested after entering Iranian territorial waters.

Trump and the assassination of Soleimani

However, Donald Trump’s coming to the White House turned all equations, withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2018, and re -imposed economic sanctions on Iran.

He also directed a severe blow to Tehran by the assassination of the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Force Qassem Soleimani, in an air strike in Iraq, to respond to Tehran with missile attacks on Iraqi bases that included American forces, which resulted in the injury of about 100 people.

Since then, relations between the two countries have continued to deteriorate.

Likewise, many Iranian provinces witnessed widespread protests, after the killing of the young Muhsa Amini, and the United States imposed sanctions on entities it said was involved in the suppression of the protesters.

But a year later, Iran released five prisoners holding Iranian and American nationalities in exchange for the exemption of sanctions, while Washington released five Iranian detainees.

On October 7, 2023, the Iranian -backed Hamas movement attacked Israel, an ally of the United States, and the latter stood up strongly with Tel Aviv, supporting it with weapons.

After that, Trump returned again to the White House last January, and called on Tehran for new nuclear negotiations.

A few days ago, Trump threatened Iran with military strikes if a new nuclear agreement was not reached soon. (Al Arabiya Net)
