Netanyahu appoints Ronin Barr as head of the Shabak

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced on Wednesday that he will appoint Ronin Barr as head of the Shin Bet, after he decided to dismiss the current president of the agency.

The announcement comes after the embarrassing decline that occurred on Tuesday in the appointment of former naval commander Eli Carvit to the position, according to the newspaper “Yediot Aharonot”.

He was looking at a bar in the Shin Bet as the best choice for the presidency of the Public Security Service, as “he has the necessary knowledge and experience to take over the leadership in the midst of war.”

Netanyahu’s office had said that the Prime Minister continues to meet the candidates for the position, after he retracted the appointment of Charvit.

Netanyahu insists on his commitment to dismiss a bar by April 10, although the Supreme Court of Justice frozen the decision to consider the petitions submitted against him.

The Prime Minister’s office says that the Acting Vice President of the Shin Bet, who is referred to only in the first letter of his name “Shen”, will be the Acting President of the device until a permanent president is appointed. (Sky News)
