The maximum pressure .. The end of the American exemptions granted to Iraq to buy electricity from Iran

The US State Department said that the administration of President Donald Trump ended the exemptions granted to Iraq to buy electricity from Iran, as part of the “maximum pressure” campaign by Trump towards Tehran.

The ministry added in a statement that the decision not to extend the exemption granted to Iraq upon its expiration “ensures that Iran is not allowed to allow any amount of economic or financial relief,” noting that the Trump campaign towards Iran aims to “end its nuclear threat, reduce its ballistic missile program and prevent them from supporting terrorist groups.”

Trump re -imposed a “maximum pressure” policy on Iran as one of his first decisions after returning to his post in January. In his first term, he withdrew from the Iranian nuclear agreement, a multilateral agreement aimed at preventing Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

The US government says it is seeking to isolate Iran from the global economy and stop its revenues from oil exports with the aim of slowing the development of Tehran to the nuclear weapon.

Washington imposed a series of sanctions on Tehran because of its nuclear program and its support for armed groups, which made the countries that deal with Iran are unable to conduct trade transactions with the United States.
