This is the story of the Lebanese flag, which is covered in the Martyrs Square

A huge Lebanese flag, which was raised in the Martyrs Square in the center of the capital, Beirut, sparked controversy among social media users, after it was modified by placing a red badge in the place of the media that mediates the flag.

The Lebanese flag raised into two halves of a red gospel covered the cedar, which prompted the followers to ask about this change in the symbol of the country, and from the authority behind this, noting that the Lebanese law punishes those who despise the Lebanese flag.

According to press information, it was found that “this amendment to science was part of a marketing campaign on the occasion of International Women’s Day, and that the aim of this campaign is to refer to full gender equality.”

It was learned that the flag was an advertising campaign carried out by the newspaper “Al -Nahar”, whose main office is located near the Martyrs Square.

The aim of the campaign was to “raise awareness about gender equality on International Women’s Day”, which falls on March 8.

It was later found that the mentioned newspaper obtained an official permission to raise the flag from the governor of Beirut, Judge Marwan Abboud, on February 27.

However, the decision of Judge Abboud does not indicate that the raising of the flag was allowed, but only stipulated that “the Lebanese flag was raised in the Martyrs Square in an initiative to raise awareness about gender equality on International Women’s Day.”

After the great controversy, the flag was removed from the middle of the Martyrs Square.

The National Council of the Lebanese flag was issued the following statement:

“The National Council of the Lebanese flag strongly condemns the blatant attack on the symbol of the homeland, which is to raise the Lebanese flag, which is marked in the Martyrs Square, in the center of Beirut.
This act, which has spread through social media, is an insult to the values of the Lebanese state and a clear violation of the sanctity of the flag that brings the Lebanese under its flag.
The Lebanese flag is not just a piece of cloth, but rather the symbol of the unity of the people and the sovereignty of the country, and it is not possible to accept any behavior that it touches or distortes under any pretext. The prejudice to the flag is a prejudice to the prestige of the state, which is totally and detailed.
The National Council of the Lebanese flag calls on the concerned authorities to open an immediate investigation to know the circumstances of this disgraceful act and hold those responsible accountable, because of its attack on the national identity. It also calls on the Lebanese to express their demands by means that preserve national symbols and enhance our unity instead of distorting them.
Lebanon remains, and its flag will remain high as it was always, a symbol of dignity and sovereignty.
