France and Britain are proposing a partial truce in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron and Foreign Minister Jean -Nawil Barrow said that their country and Britain are proposing a partial truce for a month between Russia and Ukraine that will include attacks targeting energy infrastructure and attacks by air and sea and does not include land fighting.

This came amid a boom in European diplomatic efforts to enhance Western support for Ukraine after a sharp argument during a meeting between President Voludmir Zellinski and US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Friday.
“Such a truce that will include attacks targeting energy and attack infrastructure and sea will allow us to determine whether Russian President Vladimir Putin is acting in good faith when he is committed to the truce,” said Barrow, on Monday. Then real peace negotiations can begin. ”
Macron told the newspaper “Le Vigaro” in an interview published late Sunday evening that the deployment of European ground forces in Ukraine will only take place in a second stage under the French -British proposal.
“There will be no European forces on Ukrainian lands in the coming weeks,” the newspaper quoted Macron as saying.
Macron spoke to the newspaper “Le Figaro” while he was going to London to attend a meeting with European leaders at the invitation of British Prime Minister Kiir Starmer to enhance efforts to develop a peace plan in Ukraine.
He added: “The question is how to take advantage of this time to try to reach a truce through negotiations that will take several weeks, and then, once the peace agreement is concluded, the forces are deployed.
The French president did not explain how the airspace, marine and energy infrastructure could be monitored.
A European diplomat said: “In my view, this can only be possible through NATO or at least led by NATO and then Patriot systems, long -range missiles and flying, which is not owned by Ukraine … and we must negotiate with Russia so that huge attacks are not carried out.”
The Kremlin, who rejected the idea of deploying Western forces in Ukraine, said on Monday that the verbal argument in the oval office between Trump and Zelinski showed how difficult it was to reach a settlement on the conflict in Ukraine.
