Despite the American ban .. Huawei gets TSMC components

The battle of technology between America and China seems to take a more complex trend, after reports that Huawei obtained hundreds of thousands of chips made by “TSMC”, which raised concerns about the effectiveness of American restrictions.

Since 2020, Washington has imposed a ban that prevents American technology chips from providing Huawei with the latest silicone components.

However, recent reports indicated that the Chinese company succeeded in obtaining huge quantities of these chips, which prompted Jeffrey Kisler, former President Donald Trump’s candidate for the position of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Trade for Industry and Security, to warn of the repercussions of this development, according to a report published by the “PhoneArena” website and was seen by “Business”.

In a hearing in the Senate, Kisler expressed his concern about these illegal shipments, stressing that the application of the law firmly is very important, and that if appointed, the Industry and Security Office will use all its powers to impose the necessary penalties.

Artificial intelligence chips are the cornerstone of the technological struggle between Beijing and Washington, as they can be used in military applications.

While America leads the race to develop these chips, some estimates indicate that China is close to catching them.

How did the “TSMC” chips reach “Huawei”?

When analyzing the components of ASCEND 910B, “Techinsights” found that the chip is that match the Chinese company Sophgo, prompting the US Department of Commerce to claim “TSMC” to stop any new shipments to China.

Nevertheless, reports indicate that “Sophgo” requested hundreds of thousands of chips from the giant Taiwanese company.

In turn, “TSMC” denied any violation, confirming that it is a company committed to the law and has not shipped chips for Huawei since 2020, although the latter was earlier its second largest customer after “Apple”.

Technical superiority that threatens American influence?
Huawei claims that the ASCEND 910B chip exceeds 20% in the performance of artificial intelligence training on the A100 AI unit of the American company “Invidia”, which reflects technical progress that may redraw the competition map in this field. (Arabic)
