For fear of sectarian sensitivities … a channel that prevents the broadcast of the Muawiyah series

The Iraqi Media and Communications Authority announced the prevention of broadcasting the series “Muawiyah” within the MBC channel Iraq.

The commission stated in a statement: “The ban is based on the legal powers granted to it according to the legislative order 65 of 2004 in force, and in compliance with its responsibility in organizing the media sector and ensuring the harmony of media content with the national and professional standards approved in Iraq.”

She emphasized that “broadcasting works of a dialectical historical nature may lead to the provocation of sectarian records, which threatens societal peace and affects the social fabric, especially during the month of Ramadan.”

The commission called on “all media institutions to adhere to professional standards and avoid broadcasting content that may cause sedition or sectarian incitement.”

She pointed out that she “issued an official letter to the management of the MBC channel Iraq in this regard, asking it to comply with the decision and not broadcast the series,” stressing that “it will take the necessary legal measures against any party that violates the media controls in the country.” (Russia today)
