Peace between Israel and Egypt began to crack

The American magazine “Foreign Policy” stated that “at this moment of history, events that were previously undesirable,” said the American magazine “Foreign Policy”. The Middle East analysts began to wonder whether the Egyptian -Israeli peace treaty for 1979 was permanent. Indeed, the last sixteen of the war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip added new tensions to the relationship that was often under general pressure. During the previous skirmishes between Egypt and Israel, officials in both countries made great efforts to ensure the safety of the treaty. However, this has changed. ”

According to the magazine, “In recent weeks, some of the spokesperson in Egypt has knocked on the drums of war. At the same time, Israeli bloggers were abusing Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El -Sisi and demanding Israel not to make the same mistakes in the Sinai that it committed in Lebanon with Hezbollah. He also accused the Egyptian Israeli officials of violating the peace treaty. In fact, there are a lot of things that have occurred during the past sixteen months that have never been expected to happen. The tension between Cairo and Jerusalem is completely real. To some extent, this tension is not surprising due to bloodshed during the past sixteen, but there is more than just the Egyptian government’s feeling of anger over the Israeli military operations in the Gaza Strip. There is no doubt that there are millions of Egyptians who feel very annoyed and worried about the number of dead and humanitarian conditions in Gaza, but this should not obscure the fact that the Egyptian government was a full participation in the siege of Gaza, which began after Hamas seized the Strip in 2007.

The magazine continued, “The most fundamental issue is that the Gaza war plays a role in Egypt’s long resentment because of the separate peace it held with Israel 46 years ago. Egypt has benefited from the treaty, but from the point of view of many Egyptians, it allowed the Israelis to pursue their interests across the region without any obstacle, while Washington’s embrace of Cairo turned Egypt into a spectator in a region that is supposed to lead it. In other words, many Egyptians do not like the peace treaty because it made them weak. In fact, the war in Gaza has repeatedly affirmed this weakness, the Egyptian government was unable to stop the fighting, provide humanitarian aid to the Palestinians, and prevent Israelis from seizing the Philadelphia and Rafah crossing. But even if the fighting ends, this cannot erase the fact that the Egyptian government was unable to do more than taking symbolic measures against Israel during the war.

The magazine added, “The crisis in Gaza has weakened Sisi’s position. The deployment in the Sinai constitutes a clear reference to the Egyptians that Egypt is not weak at all and that the legendary Egyptian armed forces will again protect the national interest and the Egyptian honor. The escalation of tension with Israel and the challenge of the Israelis to respond to the spread of the Sinai is a sound political strategy for Sisi. Regardless of the result, Sisi seems strong, unless there is a war, of course. As for Israel, the Israeli government has sought to obtain clarifications regarding the spread of the Sinai through the existing channel represented by the multinational power and observers, and this raises the question of whether some Israelis want to highlight the issue to cause trouble for Sisi in Washington.

According to the magazine, “Here lies the problem that makes the current tensions between Egypt and Israel is very worrying: the United States is completely absent.”
