Washington and Baghdad are discussing strategic partnership and facing Iranian influence


On Tuesday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stressed in connection with Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shuia Al -Sudani, the need to limit Iranian influence in the country, and to continue to work to prevent the return of ISIS and prevent him from destabilizing the region.

According to a statement issued by the US State Department, Rubio also discussed strengthening the strategic partnership between the United States and Iraq, and emphasizing the importance of Iraq’s stability and sovereignty.

The two parties stressed the necessity of achieving the independence of Iraq in the field of energy and accelerating the reopening of the Iraq-Turkey pipeline, as well as respecting the contracts concluded with American companies to encourage more foreign investments in Iraq.

Rubio stressed the importance of Syria’s failure to turn into a haven for terrorism or a source of threat to its neighbors.

A statement of the Iraqi Prime Minister’s office stated that the communication witnessed the discussion of the areas of coordination between Iraq and the new American administration, and the frameworks of cooperation in the context of bilateral agreements.

He added: “The progress in joint work in various fields was reviewed, and the agreement to intensify communication and deepen cooperation.”
