Tunisian President: To review the Central Bank Law


Tunisian President Qais Saeed called on Saturday to review the Central Bank Law, strengthening speculation that the government’s interference in the bank’s monetary policy and ending its independence.

In October of last year, dozens of Tunisian parliamentarians submitted a bill stripped of the central bank of exclusive to determine interest rates.

Under the draft law, the Central Bank will not have the exclusive authority to amend interest rates or foreign exchange policy, and such a measure should be taken only in consultation with the government, but it will be allowed to fund the treasury directly. (Emirates 24)
