To support the people .. Britain intends to amend its sanctions imposed on Syria

Britain has announced that it will adjust the sanctions imposed on Syria after the collapse of President Bashar al -Assad’s rule, while ensuring the continued freezing of assets and the ban on the entry of former officials in the Syrian government. “We are making these changes to support the Syrian people in rebuilding their country and enhancing security and stability, and the amendments will include alleviating the restrictions imposed on the energy, transportation and financing sectors, in addition to enhancing support for humanitarian aid,” Stephen Dowati, the Minister of Europe, North America and the seas, said in a statement. .

“The government remains determined to hold Bashar al -Assad accountable and its partners for their actions against the Syrian people, and we will ensure the continued freezing of assets and the travel ban imposed on the members of the previous regime.” He stressed that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Development will continue to use sanctions in a targeted manner, ensuring that those responsible for the terrible crimes committed during the rule of Assad, and support the operation that the West hopes to lead Syria to a more secure and prosperous future.

Earlier, the Special Envoy of the Russian President to the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov, called for the lifting of Western sanctions on Syria, considering that “Western sanctions against Syria have lost every meaning after changing power in the country.”

For its part, the European Union mortgaged the reduction of sanctions on Syria, provided that political reforms include the involvement of minorities in the transitional process, and Damascus’s commitment to not raising unrest with its neighbors.

The West remains under accurate oversight to ensure Syria’s commitment to its pledges, as it is possible to return to lifting or suspending the sanctions in the event that the Syrian government does not commit to the full implementation of the reforms. (Russia today)
