United States: Ukraine joined alliance "NATO" Unrealistic

On Wednesday, US Defense Minister Beit Higseth said that the US administration does not believe that Ukraine’s membership in NATO (NATO) is a realistic result.
Higseth indicated that Ukraine should give up the hopes of returning to its borders before 2014 and prepare for a negotiating settlement with Russia supported by international forces.

Higseth made his remarks during the first visit by a member of the US President Donald Trump’s administration to the “NATO” headquarters in Brussels.
The allies were waiting to hear the continuous amount of military and financial support that Washington intends to provide to the Ukrainian government.
NATO members were notified that President Trump is determined to make Europe bear most of the financial and military responsibilities to defend Ukraine, including a potential peacekeeping force that will not include American forces.
On this, Higseth said that the force should not have protection under Article Five, which may require the United States or the other 31 countries in NATO to intervene to help these forces if they end up engaging with Russian forces.
“American forces will not be deployed in Ukraine,” he added.
In his speech to Ukraine’s defensive communication group, Higseth said that Western supporters in Ukraine should abandon the “fake goal” of returning the country to its borders before 2014, before Russia included Crimea and seized parts of eastern Ukraine.
He continued: “We have to start admitting that returning to Ukraine’s borders before 2014 is an unrealistic goal. Seeking to achieve this imaginary goal will only lead to the prolongation of the war and cause more suffering.
“The members of this communication group must rise to the level of the event.”.
He stressed that “we will not end this devastating war and achieve a permanent peace except by linking the strength of the allies to a realistic evaluation of the battlefield.”
Higseth added that the United States wants “sovereign and prosperous Ukraine, but it also faces other security threats along its borders and in the Pacific.”
“While the United States gives priority to its interest in these threats, European allies should be at the forefront.” (Sky News)
