Damascus is witnessing a new start in the chemical weapons file

The Director General of the International Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, Fernando Arias, said on Saturday that his visit to Damascus constitutes an opportunity for a “new start” after a crisis that lasted for years during the era of ousted President Bashar al -Assad.

“This visit represents a new start, after 11 years of obstacles set by the previous authorities, the Syrian transitional authorities have an opportunity to fold the page.”

Syria agreed with Russian and American pressure in 2013 to join the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, reveal its stock and surrender to avoid the United States and its allies launching air strikes.
