The Tayasir operation asks open questions in the Israeli army and Shabak

The “Al -Mayadeen” website stated that the operation of the shooting carried out by a Palestinian near the village of Tayasir is still the focus of Israeli media, to ask more questions about the operation that led to the killing of two soldiers from the Israeli army’s reserves.

In this context, the military correspondent of the Israeli newspaper “Maariv”, Avi Ashkenazi, indicated that several open questions were raised in the Israeli army and the “Shin Bet” after the operation at the Tayasir checkpoint, east of Tubas, in the northern West Bank.

The main thing that was not solved is “the identity of the executor of the attack”, as “the security establishment has not yet succeeded in identifying it, due to the condition of the body, after the executor was seriously injured in the face as a result of the exchange of fire, which distorted his entire face,” according to Ashkenazi.

Besides, it is estimated that the perpetrator of the operation arrived in the area with a car, which prompted the Israeli army to “examine a number of cars, on Wednesday, which was parked in the event and surrounding the event, in order to find the car he used.”

Ashkenazi added that “the Israeli army did not accept a hypothesis that a single attacking attacker managed to injure 10 soldiers and enter the military site.” Therefore, there are “major questions about the performance of the military forces, which are currently being investigated,” according to it.

According to the military correspondent of “Maariv”, the most prominent of these questions: “Why was the observatory in the military tower not able to identify the attacker when approaching the site?”

Another question arises is: “Why was a reserve battalion not sent from the army that includes specialists in identifying the paths to secure the road around the site?” Instead, “The two injured soldiers came out of a small opening at the site to implement the road securing,” according to Ashkenazi.

Also, there are questions about “how a group of 8 to 9 soldiers is unable to prevent the attacker from entering the area, and the reason for not ending the clash in the early stages.”

Another questions that are discussed in the Israeli army: “How long was the soldiers on the site? Have they been replaced in recent days with the aim of creating a practical tension? Are the new soldiers in a routine state while performing their missions?

As for the preliminary investigation results, it indicates that the executor, “at some point, took the weapon of one of the injured soldiers, and continued to engage with the forces on the site, and with the forces that reached the reinforcement,” according to “Maariv”.

The newspaper also pointed out that “one of the estimates in the Israeli army, indicates that the attacker may have studied the routine of the soldiers on the site, and took advantage of the weaknesses in the performance of the military force.” (Al -Mayadeen)
