Lebanon today »News about the shaking of the exchange rate of the lira .. This is its truth

In the past few days, there was news about the possibility of a change in the exchange rate, knowing that the Acting Deputy Governor of Lebanon, Dr. Wassim Mansouri, had confirmed in a press interview that the stability in the exchange rate will continue, and there is no change in it, hoping that confidence in the Lebanese pounds will remain.

Why was this news raised and what is the purpose of it? The economist and financial expert, Dr. Bilal Alama, via “Lebanon 24”, considers that “talking about shaking the price of the lira or changing the exchange rate may have to do with what was recently raised about the recovery of the 2025 budget and if this matter happens, it will have negative repercussions.”

He said: “It was found that the 2025 budget bears a deficit of 10 percent, then the Israeli war came to Lebanon, and the predecessor of a treasury was disbursed from outside the budget, knowing that the predecessor of the treasury is usually not noticeable in the budgets.”
He believed that “in the event that a budget is re -placed again, things will differ and the lira will be affected because the expenses will be enormous in exchange for a significant decrease in revenues and it will be found that we have a deficit of 40 or 50 percent, despite the state’s ability to collect some revenues.”

He considered that “all these matters led to the spread of the news of the possibility of changing the exchange rate, although it is not possible for this to happen at the present time.” He added: “The Acting Governor of the Bank of Lebanon is comfortable with the cash situation.
