Lebanon today »Immediate changes or we will move to protect the Panama channel

On Sunday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio Panama warned against an American movement against her unless “immediate changes” have been related to the Panama channel, considering that it had violated the delivery treaty.

“The current situation is unacceptable and that if there are no immediate changes, it will require the United States to take the necessary measures to protect its rights under the treaty.”

Rubio Mulino said that President Donald Trump “took a preliminary decision that the current situation is related to the influence of the Chinese Communist Party and its control over the Panama Canal region is a threat to the channel and a violation of the treaty related to permanent neutrality and the operation of the Panama Canal.”

Trump did not rule out the use of military force to seize the channel.

For his part, the Panamanian president considered that he saw no serious threat to the United States’ military control militarily on Panama.

“I do not feel that there is any real threat at the present time against the treaty or its validity, not even by using the military force to seize the channel,” Mulino said.

Mulino suggested that “technical” talks to address the US concerns connected to the channel.

“A technical team can discuss the issue with the United States and clarify any doubts they may have,” he added in a statement to reporters after his meeting with Rubio. (Sky News)
