Lebanon today »The critical issues facing us .. Two files carried by Netanyahu during his meeting with Trump in Washington

Prior to his departure from Washington to meet US President Donald Trump on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would leave for Washington to “attend a very important meeting with President Trump.”

In his speech to reporters, he added: “The fact that this will be the first meeting with the leader of a foreign country since he took office, of great importance for the State of Israel. First, it testifies to the strength of the alliance between Israel and the United States. Second, it also indicates the strength of the link between us; A relationship has already produced great things for the State of Israel and the region, and also led to the historical peace agreements between Israel and four Arab countries – the “Abrahamic agreements” led by President Trump.

He continued: “I think we will discuss in the meetings also the critical issues facing us, victory over Hamas, restore all detainees, and deal with the Iranian axis with all its components, which is the axis that also threatens the security of Israel and the Middle East. East and the whole world. The decisions we made during the war have already changed the face of the Middle East. They changed it to an unknown extent. I think that by working hard with President Trump, we can change it more. ”

Netanyahu continued: “We can enhance Israel’s security, expand the circle of peace to the fullest extent, and achieve a wonderful era that we have never dreamed of. A era of prosperity, security and peace from power … and the strength of the alliance between Israel and the United States.

Before that, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office said that during his meeting with US President Donald Trump will be discussed in Washington, the situation in the Gaza Strip, the issue of detainees, in addition to “all components of the Iranian axis.”

Netanyahu will leave the United States later today, Sunday, in what his office described as a “historic meeting”, noting that the Israeli Prime Minister is the “first leader” of Trump after his inauguration as President of the United States, according to his description. The meeting between Trump and Netanyahu is scheduled to be held on Tuesday at the White House.

In a separate statement, Netanyahu’s office said that he had spoken with the American Special Envoy of the Middle East, Steve Whitchov, on Saturday.

They agreed on the meeting in Washington on Monday to start talks about the second stage of the detainees’ launch deal with Hamas, according to the statement.

A three -stage ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and Hamas in mid -January, after mediation efforts between the conflicting parties that lasted months by the United States, Egypt and Qatar.

Trump is known for his close relationship with Netanyahu, although he was sometimes criticizing him. This early visit is a strong indication of Trump’s support for the right -wing prime minister, who faces severe criticism for his administration of the war in Gaza.
