Lebanon today »What is the status of the education of Syrians in Lebanon?

The academic year for the education of Syrian students started in the afternoon in public schools, in conjunction with the return of Lebanese students to their schools after the war. Where the start of the academic year for the displaced Syrians was delayed due to procedures, due to the war conditions, and because of negotiations with organizations that funded the education of students.

A generation of lost Syrian refugees live, as hundreds of children and adolescents are not legally recognized, as they do not have identification documents, they are just names in this life.

Lebanon hosts 660,000 Syrian -aged children of school age, and international organizations reports indicate that about half of them do not go to school, and the percentage of leakage of refugee children from schools in Lebanon is very high, as a result of several reasons, most notably the economic factor in addition to the lack of capacity for official schools, and problems Evening working hours.

In this context, the headmaster of Al -Masar School, Issam Ismail, said: The confusion and confusion still teach the Syrian refugees, especially after they came in their clothes, and they have no identification papers, educational certificates or documents showing their academic sequence. The most prominent obstacles faced by refugees in the registration of their births are their lack of identity documents, legal residency, the inability to pay fees and the lack of awareness of the importance of this step.

Ismail pointed out that chaos of registration allows Syrian students who are not holding a legal residence card, or even an identification card issued by the High Commissioner for Refugees, a violation of all Lebanese laws, and this generalization means in practice inviting the Syrians on Lebanese soil illegally to survive in Lebanon, and the most dangerous This is that he invites the Syrians who are still in Syria to send their children to the Lebanese public schools, and this is all at the expense of the Lebanese taxpayer.

He stressed that education is a fundamental right of human rights and is necessary to develop individuals and societies, and in light of the difficult situation experienced by Syrian refugees in Lebanon, they depend on humanitarian aid to survive, which prompts many children to leave the study seats in order to work to support their families.

Ismail explained that the economic crisis prevented a large number of refugees who are not registered with the Refugee Commission for the purpose of hospitals to conduct the birth process due to the high hospital bill, so women were limited to an unlicensed midwife, which means adding complications in the event that the parents make the child’s official registration decision.

He said the future of Syrian refugees in a real threat, and the laws have preserved the right of children to science and learning, given the importance of this matter and its reflection on the groups of society, and called for not to act emotionally and nervous in this matter, which requires a narration and rationality to solve it in a way that does not bring disasters and calamities to Lebanon.

He explained that the course of teaching the displaced people is separate from the Lebanese students, and therefore the Lebanese are not affected by this in any way.

Ayman, a 34 -year -old Syrian, is the father of five children and has lived near Rumaila since 2011 after he left Syria as a result of his defection from the regime that the measures taken by some municipalities in Lebanon against the children of Syrian refugees are represented according to what an indirect invitation says to push them to the streets, These policies may also deepen the humanitarian crisis in Lebanon.
Ayman explained that his children are supposed to enter this year to school, they were not registered in schools last year. Where he asked several associations to help him, and they said to him that we cannot do anything. She quarreled with the school administration several times. A significant rate around me was unable to register their children.

And he continued in every winter, waiting for the directives of the Ministry of Education, as it publishes a list of schools that will open second -working classes for them to register. Sometimes they tell us that this is because we do not possess the necessary papers and sometimes for other reasons. This year we do not know if we would succeed in registering our children. When we go to any school they say to us, the number is completed, we do not know what to do ..

He stressed that the leakage of children from education leads to more difficult problems, including child labor and early marriage, in addition to economic and social workers, problems of students’ integration and understanding of the curriculum, and the shy support provided by international organizations in this context.
