Supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces is important and UNIFIL members are heroes

Prime Minister Najib Mikati received the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, this evening at his residence, in the presence of the United Nations Special Coordinator in Lebanon, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, the Commander of the international forces operating in southern Lebanon, UNIFIL, General Aroldo Lazaro, and Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Khaled Khayari.

Guterres said in a statement after the meeting: I just came from Naqoura in the south after my visit to the UNIFIL force center there. I felt proud when I met the brave UNIFIL members who carried out their duties under the most difficult circumstances that southern Lebanon experienced. I saw one of the UNIFIL centers that was damaged as a result of a bombing during the last war, but the brave and heroic UNIFIL forces remained in their centers and continued their mission of keeping peace and providing the necessary conditions for a ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.

He added: There is an importance in supporting the Lebanese Armed Forces and providing them with the necessary equipment to provide protection for the Lebanese.
