The Gaza deal.. These challenges threaten the second phase
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assured members of the Ministerial Council that the United States, led by current President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump, has agreed to Israel resuming military operations in the event that the second phase of the agreement fails.
The minister and former representative of the Likud Party, Ayoub Kara, indicated in exclusive statements to Al-Nasea that “the deal came as a result of international and regional balances and pressures,” considering that Trump’s approval of the agreement is not an obligation on Israel as much as it is an attempt to find solutions to the crisis.
Kara expressed his concern, saying: “There are great possibilities that the personal and political interests of both Netanyahu and Hamas will override the full implementation of the agreement, which will bring the parties back to the point of conflict.”
Hamas and Netanyahu: common interest or contradiction?
Despite the apparent difference between the two parties, observers believe that Hamas and Netanyahu may seek to achieve special political gains from the agreement. While Hamas seeks to buy time to restore its military capabilities, Netanyahu is betting on disrupting the deal or postponing his political accountability internally.
Trump expressed his support for the deal, but with strict conditions, saying that he “will not allow terrorism to return to the Gaza Strip.” Kara explained that “Trump has always been more concerned about Israel’s future, even than some of its current leaders,” referring to personal sessions that brought them together previously.
Israel faces major field challenges in the Gaza Strip, as reports indicate that some Israeli soldiers refuse to continue fighting due to psychological trauma, while fears increase of renewed conflict if the deal collapses. A question also arises about the extent of Israel’s willingness to make concessions to achieve a sustainable truce in light of the presence of Hamas.
Do the parties succeed in achieving stability?
At the conclusion of his speech, Ayoub Kara stressed that achieving stability in Gaza depends on finding a new leadership capable of reaching an understanding with Israel, saying: “The survival of Hamas means the impossibility of reaching a two-state solution or any permanent settlement.”
The full implementation of the deal remains the focus of the real test, with major political and security challenges facing the parties concerned, amid regional and international pressure to make progress towards a broader solution to the conflict. (Sky News)
