“The slowdown in core inflation in the United States has renewed hopes that the US central bank will move towards a less restrictive monetary policy this year, which has supported demand for gold,” Jigar Trivedi, an analyst at Reliance Securities, pointed out to Reuters.

He added that the unexpected slowdown in core inflation, in conjunction with the absence of major upward surprises in consumer prices, strengthened expectations for a rate cut and supported the trend towards precious metals as a safe haven.

Investors remain awaiting additional signals from the US Federal Reserve regarding its future monetary policies, in light of the uncertainty regarding the economic directions of the new US administration led by President-elect Donald Trump.
