To find a just solution to the Palestinian issue

Today, the Prime Minister-designate, Nawaf Salam, will end the non-binding parliamentary consultations in the Parliament, moving to the stage of collecting opinions and suggestions and consulting with the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, in parallel with addressing the boycott of the Shiite duo and meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nabih Berri, tomorrow.

It appeared from the summary of the positions and communications that the Prime Minister-designate’s approach is towards a government that is not loose, preferably one of competent and specialized specialists in their portfolios, in a way that distances political tensions and opens the way for accelerating the process of launching the government’s work and implementing the reform projects and programs required of it.

It was also understood that the trend is moving more towards adopting the principle of separation of powers, by separating the prosecution from the ministry, so that the nomination of ministers comes through new faces that keep pace with the stage, even if there are faces that will not be completely new to the political scene, but rather are not involved in party work.

Accompanying sources expected that the formation would not last long, with the aim of benefiting from the internal and external momentum that accompanied the election and appointment tracks, because the factors accelerating these two tracks would have a pressing role in the formation in order to launch the reconstruction workshop.

The sources of the Shiite duo pointed out that the duo appreciates and looks positively at the words of the President of the Republic and his keenness for partnership between everyone and not excluding any Lebanese component, as well as the President-designate extending his hand to cooperation and his keenness not to break anyone. However, these assurances and positives remain within the framework of speech and are awaiting practical translation.

While political circles expected a charter and political crisis to occur if the president-designate ignored the understanding that occurred between the duo, Amal, Hezbollah, and internal and external parties, parliamentary sources suggested that “the crisis arising from the day of parliamentary consultations in Baabda would be contained, during the expected meeting between Speaker Berri and the president-designate tomorrow.” During his meeting with the President of the Council, Salam should listen to the bilateral concerns and his vision for the new government, how to participate in it, its program and priorities, and its dealings with pressing issues, especially the Israeli withdrawal. From the south, implementing the armistice agreement, fixing borders and reconstruction, developing a defense strategy, and completing the implementation of the provisions of the Taif Agreement.”

Governmentally, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain, the European Union and Cooperation, José Manuel Albarez Bueno, praised President Najib Mikati’s management of the country’s affairs throughout the previous difficult period and his confrontation with the many challenges to which Lebanon was exposed, including the recent war.

After his meeting with Prime Minister Najib Mikati, the Spanish Foreign Minister congratulated Lebanon on the election of a President of the Republic and the relaunching of the constitutional wheel in the country. The Prime Minister was also briefed on the additional aid that Spain will provide to the army and its permanent support in international forums for the presence of UNIFIL forces in the south.

In turn, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rothman congratulated Lebanon on achieving the ceasefire and congratulated Lebanon on electing the President of the Republic. After his visit, President Mikati hoped that a new government would be formed soon.
Today, the Prime Minister is scheduled to receive the Minister of Culture of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Ayman Safadi, who will visit the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, in the morning.

Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed the announcement by Qatar, Egypt and the United States of America of reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

He said: This announcement ends a bloody page in the history of the Palestinian people, who suffered greatly as a result of the Israeli aggression. All hope is that the ceasefire will be sustainable and that Israel will adhere to it, so that a final solution to the Palestinian issue will then be found and the Palestinians will be given their legitimate rights.
