The first Lebanese woman, Mrs. Neamat Aoun, praised “the role played by the National Commission for Lebanese Women and the achievements it has achieved over the past years, which have raised the status of women in Lebanon to the highest levels.”

Claudine Aoun explained, “Given the importance of continuing the work of public institutions, the Commission did not stop carrying out its duties during the period of the presidential vacancy, and over the course of seven and a half years it was able to work professionally, transparently, on a voluntary basis, and in a participatory approach with various parties from the public and private sectors.”

She added: “Despite the challenges and obstacles that we faced, and that the nation faced and that Lebanese women in particular faced, we achieved important achievements, most notably raising societal awareness about women’s issues and the importance of strengthening their role at various levels, adopting administrative reforms within the National Authority, and reaching the approval of new laws to protect women.” Women and girls from all forms of violence, and amending other laws that would achieve equality between women and men. We have also prepared and begun implementing the National Strategy for Women in Lebanon 2022-2030 and its first action plan, in addition to the first national plan for Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security 2019-2023, and the second plan for this resolution, which will form, with the National Strategy for Women, a road map in the coming years.” .

The head of the commission expressed her hope that the principle of parity between women and men would be adopted in forming the new government, “with the hope that in the near future we will witness the consecration of this principle in law as well as in culture.” We also hope that the new government will adopt and approve the National Strategy for Women in Lebanon and the Second National Action Plan to implement Resolution 1325.”

She wished the new General Assembly of the National Authority and its next president success in achieving progress in women’s issues in Lebanon.

It is noteworthy that the presidency of the Commission will move to the first Lebanese woman, Mrs. Neamat Aoun, after the formation of the new government.
