The Minister of Economy in the Syrian caretaker government, Basil Abdel-Hanan, commented on the American decision to partially and temporarily lift the sanctions imposed on Syria, indicating that it will contribute to facilitating the flow of basic goods and services, especially in the energy sector, and conducting limited financial transactions.
Despite the limited positivity of this step, the minister explained that the impact on the exchange rate will be slight, as increased financial flows and increased confidence in the local economy will contribute to improving the value of the Syrian pound, but for a short period due to the temporary nature of the American license.
Abdel Hanan added that this license may contribute to improving infrastructure and opening the way for some reconstruction projects, but he stressed that the comprehensive impact requires a complete lifting of sanctions to achieve real economic recovery in the country.
He stressed that the sanctions were linked to the previous regime that caused the destruction of the country and the impoverishment of its people, and with its demise, it is necessary to lift the sanctions completely to enable the Syrians to rebuild their homeland and achieve stability and sustainable development, stressing that the temporary license cannot be a radical solution to the Syrian crisis, but rather It is a limited step on a long path towards economic recovery.
