An Israeli minister demands attracting a million Jews to the West Bank

On Sunday, Israeli Minister of Construction and Housing Yitzhak Goldktoev called for attracting one million Jews to settle in the occupied West Bank.

This came during a tour he took in the northern West Bank, according to the Hebrew website “Bhadri Haredim,” which specializes in news about religious Haredi Jews.

The minister called on Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “bring a million Jews to Judea and Samaria,” which is the Jewish name for the West Bank. He also called on him to “exploit the current opportunity of the situation in Palestine and the Middle East to expand settlement construction in the West Bank.”

The United Nations considers settlement activity in the occupied Palestinian territories illegal, and has been calling for its cessation for decades, to no avail, because it undermines the chances of resolving the conflict in accordance with the principle of the two-state solution.

In recent months, the voices of ministers in the Israeli government, including its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have spoken openly about Tel Aviv’s intention to annex the West Bank occupied since 1967 to Israel.

In this context, the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Authority (governmental) reported that “the number of settlers in the West Bank reached about 770,420 settlers at the end of 2024, distributed among 180 settlements and 256 settlement outposts, of which 138 outposts are classified as pastoral and agricultural.” (Sky News)
