Violations continue… and the army expands its deployment as border towns prepare to return
Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement continue, as Israeli forces carried out violations by bombing and bombing homes in some border areas.
In the latest field developments, early this morning, the Israeli army booby-trapped at least five residential homes and blew them up in the town of Aita al-Shaab, in a move that falls within a series of ongoing violations of the ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon, according to the National Agency.
This morning, an Israeli army force carried out sweeping operations with heavy and medium machine guns on the outskirts of the towns of Maroun al-Ras and Yaron.
Meanwhile, before noon today, an Israeli armored force consisting of a “Merkava” tank and two “Hummer” vehicles entered into the direction of the northern outskirts of the town of Maroun al-Ras and was stationed near a house.
It was reported that an Israeli army mechanized patrol entered towards Wadi Khansa and Rayhana Berri in the Al-Mari Plain in the Arqoub area.
In a serious development yesterday, Israeli armed drones carried out a two-missile strike on a car in the town of Kunene, wounding two people, according to a statement from the Public Health Emergency Operations Center of the Ministry of Public Health.
Border towns are gradually preparing to return
For its part, the municipality of Aitaroun issued a statement confirming preparations for the gradual return of the people to their town, and the municipality announced that, within the framework of the return plan, a field reconnaissance tour will be conducted tomorrow, Monday, at ten in the morning, in coordination with the Lebanese army, which will reposition itself in two areas of the town, namely Al-Batm Al-Sharqi and Al-Bat.
The municipality confirmed that the permanent return of residents will be determined in the coming days according to developments on the ground, with the need to be careful when moving, especially in the border areas, in light of the presence of unexploded ordnance and suspicious objects in the area.
The municipality of Mays al-Jabal also announced, in an official statement, today, Sunday, the start of implementation of the deployment plan that will be carried out by Lebanese army units in cooperation with UNIFIL forces in the town and neighboring villages. This comes within the framework of implementing the ceasefire decision and completing its provisions.
The municipality explained that the Lebanese army will take exceptional measures to prevent entry into the town during the next stage, pending the completion of detection operations and removal of risks. The statement indicated that the roads will remain closed due to the presence of mines and unexploded ordnance, which require treatment by army engineering teams.
The statement added that the Lebanese Army, in cooperation with health teams, will work to recover the bodies of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending the land. The municipality confirmed that the return of the people would be “safe and dignified,” calling on residents to be patient and adhere to the army’s directives.
The municipality warned of the continued Israeli violations targeting civilians and safe areas, which requires taking caution at this sensitive stage, and stated that safe return requires full cooperation with the security authorities to avoid any risks that may threaten the lives of citizens.
The municipality of Mays al-Jabal also confirmed its readiness to accompany the official authorities during the return period, and to prepare for the reconstruction and recovery phase, which will include the restoration of homes and infrastructure and the rebuilding of institutions destroyed by Israeli attacks.
The Lebanese Army expands its deployment
On the other hand, the army is continuing its deployment in the western sector of the south, amid the ongoing Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement, and the approaching expiration of the sixty-day deadline set for complete Israeli withdrawal.
During a phone call with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, French President Emmanuel Macron affirmed France’s commitment to continue supporting Lebanon in all fields, especially the Lebanese army, and its keenness to implement the ceasefire agreement in southern Lebanon, promising to visit Lebanon in the near future, and congratulating the election of a new president. To the Republic, praising Berri’s role and efforts in fulfilling the promise he made in order to complete the entitlement at a historic moment for Lebanon.
In turn, the Speaker of the House of Representatives thanked the French President and France for their constant support for Lebanon and their participation in the “UNIFIL” forces and in the five-year technical committee that supervises the implementation of the ceasefire agreement, stressing the importance of adhering to the ceasefire, stopping Israeli violations, and Israel’s withdrawal within the 60-day period. From all Lebanese lands.
The Lebanese Army Command – Directorate of Orientation announced in a statement yesterday, Saturday, that its units continue to deploy in the areas of Ras Naqoura – Tire and the towns of the western sector, including Alma Al-Shaab, Al-Dhahira, Aitaroun, Bint Jbeil, Tair Harfa, Majdal Zoun, Al-Salehni, and Al-Quzah, After the withdrawal of Israeli forces.
The command explained that the army is working to strengthen the position and secure vital points in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the five-party committee to supervise the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
She added, “The relevant units continue to conduct engineering surveys to remove unexploded ordnance, open roads, and remove rubble.”
