Message to the President of the Republic: We want to retire!
The Lebanese Samer Darwish expects only one thing from the President of the Republic, Joseph Aoun, which is to work on a social safety net and a pension for those over the age of 64 in Lebanon.
Darwish says that this matter may not be achieved easily, but if the will is present, everything happens, and this matter cannot be difficult if the required financial and economic plans are put in place.
Darwish, who is over 66 years old, is now contemplating what might await him after receiving a small compensation not exceeding 1,500 US dollars from the work in which he spent decades.
Indeed, the compensation is small, as the economic crisis has eroded it, while the biggest problem revolves around the state’s lack of attention to addressing this issue. Here, Mahmoud asks: What is the solution? Will we be begging? Where will the guarantees come from as long as the state has not established a real retirement system, or what is known as “old-age security”?
During the era of poverty, the state did not approve the “Law of Old Age,” and after the economic crisis, all gains, whether functional or even livelihood, were lost. For this reason, the Lebanese are counting on the possibility of the President of the Republic starting his term by working to approve old-age security and the pension law for all Lebanese and abolishing the unjust compensation system, which will make them feel safe at least when they reach an age where they cannot work at all.
From here, Darwish says that the success of the new president’s era begins based on what the people and the people want, and he added: “In the oath speech, we heard that the president wants to strengthen social protection networks… Truly, the foundation starts from here, and there is absolutely no room for anything but social care and a safety net that makes us We are honored and strengthened in our homeland, not humiliated. We beg for donations and die from helplessness and extreme poverty.”
