President Aoun receives congratulations from the Saudi Crown Prince and an invitation to visit the Kingdom… and a statement
Today, Saturday, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun received a phone call from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who conveyed to him the congratulations of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and his personal congratulations on his election as President of the Republic. The Saudi Crown Prince also invited President Aoun to visit the Kingdom.
In his response, President Aoun affirmed that “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will be his first destination in his foreign visits in response to the invitation of His Highness the Crown Prince, and out of belief in the Kingdom’s historical role in supporting Lebanon, and in strengthening the deep relations that unite Lebanon with its brothers in the Arab world.”
Later in the day, President Aoun made a statement at Baabda Palace, where he stressed: “I did not come to work in politics, but rather to build a state, and the state is based only on justice and equality among all its components.” He added: “We have a great opportunity. We either win it or lose it.” In order to benefit from it, we must join hands.”
President Aoun pointed out the necessity of forming a government as soon as possible to activate reforms and build confidence with the outside world, stressing that Lebanon has the human capacity and resources to achieve success, but he added that “what is required is pure intention for the benefit of Lebanon, not for personal interest.”
He also called for constructive assistance from abroad, stressing that “there is no preference for one sect over another or one person over another,” concluding by saying: “We are all Lebanese, we carry the same identity and sing the same national anthem.”
