The army in Syria…a first step towards a future
In a statement, the Syrian Minister of Defense, Murhaf Abu Qasra, announced the start of sessions with the military factions with the aim of developing practical steps to integrate them within the Ministry of Defense, within the framework of a plan aimed at restructuring and organizing the Syrian armed forces.
Abu Qasra said: “In accordance with the directives of the General Command to restructure the armed forces and organize the Syrian Arab Army, we began sessions with the various military factions to develop a road map that ensures achieving stability in the organizational structure of the armed forces, in a way that serves the unification of efforts and the strengthening of institutional work.”
These statements come after. The leader of the new administration in Syria, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, indicated that all military factions will be merged into one institution under the administration of the new Syrian Ministry of Defense.
Al-Sharaa explained that the goal of this step is to unify military forces within a strong institutional framework, which contributes to enhancing stability and achieving security nationwide.
Murhaf Abu Qasra had assumed the position of military commander in Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham, and he was one of the most prominent commanders of the military operations that were able to topple Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, as the operations played a pivotal role in the political and military transformations that Syria is currently witnessing.
Syria has witnessed major political and military transformations since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime, as the new administration works to rebuild state institutions in a way that ensures long-term stability. The step to merge the military factions within the Ministry of Defense is part of a broader vision to restructure the country’s security and military services.
