We are facing a new workshop to save Lebanon

Prime Minister Najib Mikati visited Baabda Palace today, Friday, where he met with President Joseph Aoun.

In his statement after the meeting, Mikati said: I am happy to visit the palace and I congratulated President Aoun and wished him success.

He added: I discussed with the new president the previous stage and we discussed what the government had done through which we were able to pass the last stage and were able to preserve the state and its facilities.

He continued: I spoke with President Aoun about the situation in the south and the necessity of the Israeli enemy’s complete withdrawal and stopping its violations of Lebanon.

Mikati announced that Aoun asked the government to continue conducting business until a new government is formed, and he continued: There are constitutional steps to form the future government that must be able to implement the direction that His Excellency the President explained yesterday in his swearing-in speech, and we are facing a new workshop to save Lebanon.

In response to a question, Mikati replied: We appreciate all political opinions and every person has the freedom to say what he wants and the constitutional procedures regarding forming the government are taking their course.

He continued: President Aoun set broad outlines for the action plan, and there are many things he talked about that can be implemented and worked on.

Regarding Aoun’s words about the state’s monopoly on weapons, Mikati replied: Are you waiting for the president of the country to say that weapons are legal for everyone? Today we are facing a new phase that must witness the withdrawal of weapons from the south of the Litani and the establishment of stability in the south and all of Lebanon.
