The Supreme Court refuses to postpone the pronouncement of the criminal ruling against Trump
The US Supreme Court rejected an emergency request by President-elect Donald Trump to postpone the sentencing in his criminal case in New York known as “buying silence,” allowing the proceedings to continue as scheduled on Friday morning.
In a brief decision, a majority of 5 judges indicated that Trump could challenge his conviction through the usual legal means through appeal.
Trump said earlier that pronouncing the ruling only 10 days before his inauguration would hinder the presidential transition process, but the majority believed that “the burden that the pronouncement of the ruling imposes on the responsibilities of the president-elect is considered minimal.”
Four of the court’s conservative judges expressed their objection to the decision, without providing justifications.
