A new page has been opened…and Lebanon has officially become free of resistance
The head of the Phalange Party, MP Sami Gemayel, commented on Al Arabiya on the presidential election session, saying: “It is a new page in Lebanon’s history. We hope it will be bright and that countries will stand with Lebanon to revive it.”
Regarding the president’s speech, he pointed out that he is “the first president after the war to be elected in a country liberated from any guardianship, and for this reason his speech is unprecedented in the last 30 years. All presidents either came during the days of guardianship or during a period when Hezbollah was in charge of the decision and was forbidden from doing anything.” He is president of speaking about his country’s interest and for his speech to be as clear as Aoun’s speech, which is the natural and logical speech that all Lebanese are waiting for.”
Gemayel considered that a new page has been opened and Lebanon has officially become free of resistance and is able to decide its fate without any guardianship from anyone. It is our responsibility to support all friends of Lebanon and the international community to help and support the President of the Republic to achieve what he has committed to, and we pledge to defend the speech that fully represents us.
Regarding the Syrian file, he said: “All we aspire to is equal relations based on respect between two countries, and this begins with demarcating the real and political borders between the Lebanese and Syrian territories, so that each country respects the other’s sovereignty and establishes equal and diplomatic relations.”
He added: “It is important to us that the ceasefire agreement is implemented, that Israel withdraws, and that the Lebanese army is deployed on all Lebanese lands, as the President of the Republic pledged. I say that a strong feeling of pride came over me while the President delivered the oath of office speech, as if it was a dream come true for us,” stressing that “we do not want to antagonize anyone.” A country, but we categorically reject any country intervening in Lebanon and using our country as a missile platform, as happened with Iran in the past 15 years, turning it into a military base from which fighters launched to defend Bashar al-Assad. In the face of his people, after that war of support, for which we paid dearly.”
