Suleiman Franjieh: I announce the withdrawal of my candidacy
The head of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Franjieh, issued the following statement:
However, now that the conditions are in place for electing a President of the Republic tomorrow, and in light of what has turned out to be the case, I announce the withdrawal of my candidacy, which was never an obstacle to the election process.
As I thank everyone who voted for me, I – in line with what I have announced in previous positions – support General Joseph Aoun, who has the characteristics of reserving the position of the First Presidency. I wish the Parliament success in the election process, and I wish the nation to pass this stage with unity, awareness, and responsibility.
