Today’s dollar price in Syria: a new decline in the lira

The black market in Syria witnessed a decline in the exchange rates of the dollar against the Syrian pound, as prices were recorded as follows:

  • Damascus: The price of the US dollar reached 12,800 liras for purchase and 13,000 liras for sale.
  • Aleppo: The dollar exchange rate recorded 12,800 liras for purchase and 13,000 liras for sale.
  • Idlib: The price of the dollar on the black market reached 12,700 liras for purchase and 12,900 liras for sale.
  • Al-Hasakah: The price of the dollar reached 12,350 liras for purchase and 12,550 liras for sale.

Prices of other currencies in the parallel market

  • Euro: Its price was set at 13,194 liras for purchase and 13,406 liras for sale.
  • Turkish Lira: Its value was estimated at 360 liras for purchase and 368 liras for sale.

Currency rates according to the official bulletin of the Central Bank

  • US dollar:
    • In banks: 13,500 liras to buy and 13,567 liras to sell.
    • For money transfers coming from abroad: 13,500 liras for purchase.
  • euro: The official exchange rate recorded 14,073.23 liras for purchase and 14,143.60 liras for sale.
  • Turkish lira: Its price was set at 384.91 liras for purchase and 388.75 liras for sale.

Dr. Nidal Al-Shaar, the former Syrian Minister of Economy, said that the size of the material losses caused by Bashar al-Assad and his regime amount to one trillion and 80 billion dollars.

Al-Shaar stated in a post he wrote on his Facebook page that, according to his personal estimate, based on sad observations, as he described it, infrastructure and quarantine losses amount to $600 billion.

Al-Shaar, who assumed the Ministry of Economy between 2011 and 2012, following the outbreak of the Syrian revolution, added that there were production losses estimated at $300 billion, as a result of the “martyrdom” of more than a million people, indicating that the Syrian economy lost the bodies and productivity of these people.

He continued that there is a productivity loss estimated at 100 billion dollars, as a result of the presence of 240,000 disabled people, in addition to a loss of 50 billion dollars as a result of the cessation of internal investment in Syria, and 25 billion dollars as a result of the loss of productivity of two million children outside the educational process, and finally 5 billion dollars in losses from foreign investments.
