The newspaper “Messaggero” said that the Italian Prime Minister’s visit will take place to the United States, before the trip of outgoing President Joe Biden to Rome, which will take place on January 9.

The newspaper indicated that one of the topics of the upcoming meeting with Trump may be the situation surrounding Italian journalist Cecilia Sala, who was arrested in Tehran in mid-December 2024.

The Iranian authorities explained that they were linking her release to her exchange for an Iranian engineer who was arrested a few days before Sala at Milan Airport at the request of the United States in the case of violating sanctions in connection with the transfer of drone technology to Iran.
