Resuming the Gaza negotiations in Qatar… and focusing on a complete ceasefire

Israel announced that it was sending a delegation to Qatar to resume ceasefire negotiations and exchange of prisoners in Gaza, in a move that was welcomed by the United States. For its part, Hamas confirmed the resumption of indirect talks in Doha, noting that the current round focuses on reaching a complete ceasefire agreement, the return of the displaced, and the withdrawal of the Israeli army, stressing its seriousness in reaching an imminent ceasefire agreement.

In his comment, John Kirby, spokesman for the National Security Council at the White House, said that the administration of President Joe Biden is urging Hamas to sign a new ceasefire agreement that includes the release of prisoners. The White House also welcomed Israel’s decision to send an additional delegation to Doha to complete the negotiations.

In addition, Israeli Channel 13 reported that Israel is awaiting a response from Hamas, while adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to an “sufficient mandate” for the Israeli negotiating delegation in Doha.

For its part, the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that “the mediators are trying to find solutions to Israel’s demand to obtain a list of the names of living Israeli prisoners.” (agencies)
