Setting the date for Trump’s sentencing in the porn actress case

US Judge Juan Merchan set January 10 as the date for sentencing President-elect Donald Trump in the case of buying the silence of a porn actress, which a Trump spokesman considered a violation of immunity.

The date comes just 10 days before Trump’s inauguration as President of the United States.

The judge said he was not inclined to impose a prison sentence on Trump, who was convicted last May of 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal a sum of money paid to porn actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 to prevent her from talking about an alleged relationship with him.

On the other hand, a Trump spokesman described the decision to pronounce the ruling before his inauguration as “a blatant violation of the president-elect’s immunity,” stressing that “the timing carries political connotations aimed at affecting the legitimacy of his leadership.”

“Setting a sentencing date is in direct violation of the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling and other long-standing judicial precedent,” Stephen Chang said.
