27 migrants were killed and 83 rescued after two boats sank off Tunisia

Incidents of migrant boat sinkings occur frequently off the Tunisian coast. 110 migrants from several countries in sub-Saharan Africa sailed on two boats that “left the coast near Sfax on the night of December 31 to January 1,” according to a Tunisian National Guard official.
